ニセフォール・ニエプス美術館(フランス)はアマチュア写真家によって寄贈された多くの家族写真を収蔵している。主に18世紀初頭から現代に至るまでの家族アルバム、ガラス板やポラロイド、小さなプリントから大きなフォーマットまで様々なイメージがコレクションされる。これらの写真は一度収蔵されると、美術館で永久的に保管される。ただし、提供されたすべての写真が収蔵されるわけではなく、コレクションディレクターにより選別される。 この作品は、写真が個人的な記憶から共有の財産へと変化する過程を追跡し、家族アルバムから美術館の収蔵庫に至る過程を描く。また寄贈されたにもかかわらず、美術館での選別に漏れ、ゴミ箱に捨てられた写真によって制作されたフォトグラムでは、死と忘却を囁く誰かの記憶の幽霊が浮かび上がる。

This work explores memory, the body, and the invisible layers of history through the legacy of Mikiyo Kanō (1940–2019), a pioneering historian of Japanese women’s history. Over three decades, Kanō au- thored Notes on the Home Front, a ten-volume series that examined the often-overlooked participa- tion of women in wartime Japan.

Among her personal belongings, numerous scarves were found—objects that had touched her skin, accompanied her movements, and quietly absorbed the texture of her daily life. Using the photographic technique of lumen printing, which captures light directly on photosensitive paper without a camera, these scarves were exposed to light, allowing their presence to be imprinted in time.

The resulting images are not simply traces of fabric, but imprints of absence, memory, and resistance. In engaging with these intimate materials, the work offers a space to reencounter forgotten narratives and to question how personal and political histories continue to intertwine..
